How To Nail Your Frontend Interview Day 1
A job interview is one of the most terrifying experiences for any software developer/engineer, both inexperienced and experienced. It’s that one process a number of us hate when it comes to getting a job. So, I have decided to start a series to give people an insight into what an interview looks like and how to properly prepare for a frontend interview. Take note this series can also help anyone who intends to apply for any tech job as the basics of an interview are the same.
Let’s start!
So today we are going to look at the overall interview process and some of factors that causes people not to apply for a job.
There are 3 main factors that usually result in people not applying for a job, and we are going to talk about them in detail:
Having an inadequate resume for the role that you are interested in applying for. In tech its recommended that you tailor your resume according the requirements that they list. Its not only that but, at times those requirements are scary long. Try not worry much about this because majority of the time these requirements are just a copy paste template found on the internet. You should focus mainly on the job title, skills and having experience or something close the experience they require.
Not knowing the interview process. I know this may seem like a dull point, but trust me if you are a beginner this can result in you not knowing what to do after let’s say you pass the first stage which is usually the resume. It may look seem that I’m being impartial with beginners but, it’s the plain truth as a beginner you don’t what to expect if you make through the first stage and this can result in one not even applying for that role because of the fear of the unknown.
Fear of failure. Better known as “imposter syndrome." Well, no matter which phase you are in in tech, this one is a killer. I actually go through this myself, and I have found my own way of dealing with it. Remember I mentioned “scary requirements” earlier? Seeing a whole lot of requirements on a job posting is petrifying. It makes you think that you are not suited for the listing, usually resulting in you not applying because it’s scary and you do not want to fail anyway.
Enough about Job Application Hesitation. The image below shows you a typical interview model used by a lot of tech companies and in the coming days we will discuss each step in the interview process.
